Mary Fennessy qualified in social work in UCD and undertook further training at the Maudsley Hospital, Institute of Family Therapy and Institute of Group Analysis in London.
She has a special interest in standards of safe care for those using health and social services and has extensive experience in policy development, management and delivery of a multidisciplinary child and adolescent mental health service.
Mary was a Board member of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse 2004-2009; she co- authored and made recommendations in the Ryan Report regarding future practice and standards for the safe care and protection of children.
She is Chairperson of the National Prison Visiting Committees and of Mountjoy Visiting Committee. Mary has been appointed to the Health Committee of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland and the Health and Social Care Professionals regulatory body, CORU.
