This guide outlines HIQA’s monitoring and quality improvement programme for unannounced nutrition and hydration inspections in public acute hospitals (excluding paediatric and maternity services). The aim of this programme is to review the arrangements hospitals have in place to ensure that patients are adequately assessed, managed and their care evaluated to meet their nutrition and hydration needs. It supersedes all previous versions.
