Older people's publication statement 05 September 2016
Today the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 16 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.
Ten centres received an unannounced inspection to assess compliance with the standards and regulations. Six centres received an announced inspection; four of these were full-18 outcome inspections.
Good practice and evidence of safe, high-quality care was found in 11 centres. However, areas of concern and evidence of non-compliance were found in five of today’s inspection reports. Areas of non-compliance identified included end-of-life care, safe and suitable premises, governance and management, health and safety and risk management, and safeguarding of residents.
