Caroline Spillane CDir is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Ireland, a position she has held since July 2022. She brings extensive senior leadership experience, having previously served as Director General of Engineers Ireland—the all-island professional body for engineers—Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Council of Ireland, the statutory regulator for medical practitioners, and Assistant National Director of the Health Service Executive.
Caroline is also an experienced Non-Executive Director, currently serving on the boards of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), ESB Networks, and Irish Manufacturing Research. She is a member of the Balance for Better Business Advisory group, the Government established independent review group committed to achieving a better gender balance at the senior levels of Irish companies.
She is a Chartered Director and holds a master’s degree from the Technological University of Dublin and a bachelor’s degree from University College Cork. Caroline is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration at South East Technological University.
