In 2013 the Authority published the National Standard Demographic Dataset and Guidance for use in health and social care settings in Ireland. We are now undertaking a revision of that standard.

Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common arrhythmia seen in general practice, is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Ireland. The overall burden of AF is increasing as our population ages, making it ever more important that the arrhythmia is detected and managed effectively to improve outcomes for patients and ensure the sustainability of health services in Ireland.

The Authority has developed these standards to support the health identifiers operator as it sets up and maintains two new national registers. Both health service providers and service users can be uniquely identified, which ultimately leads to improvements in patient safety.

In 2010, the Authority published its Budget Impact Analysis Guidelines (updated in 2014) as part of its suite of HTA guidelines. These guidelines are limited to the methodological guidance on the conduct of budget impact analysis (BIA) and are intended to promote best practice in BIA.

HIQA has produced a substantial amount of recommendations and learning for public hospitals in Ireland through its various investigations and other regulatory work. This document communicates some of this learning to support public hospitals to implement the National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare to generate an awareness of how the Standards relate to real-world care delivery.
