Today the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) are publishing 15 inspection reports in residential settings for older people.

Nine of the centres inspected were found to be in compliance with the regulations and the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland. Significant non-compliance was found in five centres.

Two of today’s reports are single specific issue inspections and one is a medication management thematic inspection. Three of the reports are follow-up inspections, two are 10 outcome inspections, and two are full 18 outcome announced inspections carried out for the purpose of informing a registration decision. Five of the inspections carried out were dementia specific thematic inspections; four of these centres were found to be compliant.

Reported non-compliances were in the areas of Governance and Management, inadequate staffing and non-compliant premises.
