The development of national standard datasets can help to standardise how patient information is recorded and can facilitate easier sharing of information within and between health and social care services. Currently there is no standardised dataset to describe a dispense record that can be used in community pharmacy. We are developing a standardised dataset for dispensing medication and a technical specification using the international messaging standard known as Health Level 7 Clinical Document Architecture which will facilitate the sharing of medication information dispensed to a patient.
