As a registered provider or person in charge of a special care unit, you are legally required to notify us within certain time frames about certain incidents, events or changes within your centre.

HIQA is legally responsible for the monitoring, inspection and registration of all special care units for children in Ireland.

Where a health services provider is satisfied that a notifiable incident under the Patient Safety Act has occurred in the course of the provision of a health service to a patient, it shall notify HIQA or the Chief Inspector of Social Services.

We are responsible for producing the evidence to support the development of National Clinical Guidelines. The guidelines aim to promote healthcare that is current, effective and consistent, ensuring best outcomes for patients and people using services.
