HIQA’s Provider Portal is a website that allows online submission of regulatory notification information for designated centres, which is a statutory requirement.

We are legally responsible for the monitoring, inspection and registration of designated centres for adults and children with a disability.

Since November 2013, all designated centres for people with disabilities must be registered with HIQA. We inspect services regularly to ensure they maintain a high level of care.

We are responsible for monitoring, inspecting and registering all nursing homes in Ireland to ensure that residents are safe and receive a high quality of care.

We register designated centres for older people. We also monitor and inspect these centres regularly to ensure they maintain a high level of care and support.

The website currently has Level AA conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0

The Lexicon for Social Care is an initiative by HIQA’s Chief Inspector of Social Service. The Lexicon provides a list of commonly-used words relevant to social care, along with a definition.

We aim to improve the quality and safety of health and social care services by setting national standards and publishing guidance.

HIQA is legally responsible for the monitoring, inspection and registration of all special care units for children in Ireland.
