Disability publication statement 28 September 2018

Date of publication:

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has today published 23 reports on designated centres for people with disabilities. HIQA inspects against the Health Act 2007 (Care and Support of Residents in Designated Centres for Persons (Children and Adults) with Disabilities) Regulations 2013 and the National Standards for Residential Services for Children and Adults with Disabilities, which apply to residential and respite services for people with disabilities in Ireland.

Inspections found a good level of compliance with the regulations and standards in 22 centres, including centres operated by Peter Bradley Foundation, Redwood Extended Care Facility, Redwood Neurobehavioural Services, RehabCare, Resilience Healthcare Limited, Saint Patrick’s Centre (Kilkenny), SOS Kilkenny, St Christopher’s Services and St Joseph’s Foundation. These centres were found to provide a good standard of care and quality of life to residents.

Four inspection reports on centres provided by Nua Healthcare Services have also been published today. Three centres were found to be meeting the requirements of the regulations and standards. While a number of improvements had been made in the fourth centre, the configuration of the premises was found to be unsuitable for the number and needs of residents living there at that time. Further measures were subsequently made by the provider to ensure it was suitable to meet the needs of all residents.
