Health Information and Quality Authority Appoints New Senior Managers

The Health Information and Quality Authority is pleased to announce two new senior appointments to the Authority’s management team. 

Sean Angland has been appointed Head of Corporate Services and Marty Whelan has been appointed Head of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement. Both positions will report directly to the Chief Executive of the Authority.

A graduate of University College Cork, Sean Angland was formerly Director of Finance for the European Capital of Culture: Cork 2005. A native of Newmarket County Cork, he previously spent a number of years working in Britain with organisations including The Princes Trust and with the National Consumer Council.

As Head of Corporate Services, Sean will be responsible for the corporate services function within the Health Information and Quality Authority, and will lead the development and implementation of a robust corporate services strategy to enable the Authority to effectively deliver on its mandate.

As Head of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, Marty Whelan will be responsible for leading the strategic and operational management of the communications between the Health Information and Quality Authority, its staff, service-users and the public, providers of services and their staff, key national and international stakeholders, the media and Government.

A native of Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, Marty is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and has many years experience working in communications, most recently as Communications Manager for the Irish Bank Officials Association. He has also worked as a communications consultant, providing strategic advice and developing media strategies for a range of clients in the private, voluntary and representative sectors. Prior to this he spent three years managing the Government Communications Unit in the Department of Taoiseach.

Commenting on the appointments, Dr. Tracey Cooper, CEO said; “The Health Information and Quality Authority is continuing to build its management team and I am delighted that we have now appointed two excellent and experienced managers to these key positions. I look forward to working closely with Sean and Marty to put in place the corporate structures which will enable us to deliver to our mandate and to develop the communications framework which will ensure that we maintain open and transparent relationships with our key stakeholders”.
