HIQA announces new Acting Chief Executive

The Health Information and Quality Authority’s Director of Regulation, Phelim Quinn, has been appointed the Authority’s Acting Chief Executive from today, following the retirement of Professor Jane Grimson who was previously in this acting role.

The Authority’s Director of Health Technology Assessment, Dr Máirín Ryan, has been appointed Acting Deputy CEO.

Phelim Quinn said, “I am delighted to have been asked to be the Acting Chief Executive of HIQA and to continue and build on the work of our former CEO Tracey Cooper and our former Acting CEO and Director of Health Information Professor Jane Grimson over the past eight years.

“HIQA is committed to following through on its important work programme as outlined in our Corporate Plan 2013–2015. Central to the successful delivery of this programme is our fundamental commitment to transparency and independence that puts the people who use our health and social care services at the heart of what we do.

“The Authority has and will always act in the best interests of the public to drive safer better care. We will continue to work towards improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of health and social care services for the people of Ireland and to support informed decisions on how services are delivered.”

Brian McEnery, Chairperson of HIQA, said, “HIQA is fortunate to have people of the calibre, experience and professionalism of Phelim Quinn to continue leading the Authority and ensuring our independent voice is heard in the interests of people who use our health and social care services.

“The Board and management of the Authority fully support Phelim and look forward to working with him to ensure HIQA’s work has a substantial impact on the delivery of services in the public interest.

“The Board of the Authority hopes to be in a position to fill the post of CEO over the coming months and in the interim period, we remain very focused on our work and on people using our services.”
