Older people's publication statement 15 July 2016

Date of publication:

Today, the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 26 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.

Eighteen of today’s reports cover unannounced inspections into centres for older persons.

Nine of these reports are dementia specific thematic inspections undertaken to ensure residents with dementia are receiving a good quality of life. Six of the centres inspected were found to be compliant with the regulations and met the standards. Risks to the safety and welfare of residents were found in three of these centres.

Four single issue inspections were carried out in centres where an area of risk had been identified. A fire inspection was carried out where there were fire safety concerns. A single issue inspection into medicines management has also been published today.
