Older people's publication statement 24 May 2016

Date of publication:

Today the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) are publishing 14 inspection reports in residential settings for older people.

Ten of the centres inspected were found to be in compliance with the regulations and the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland. Significant failings were found in four centres.

Of today’s inspection reports, two are announced inspections and 12 are unannounced inspections. Two were full 18-outcome inspections to inform a registration renewal decision, two inspections were follow-up inspections to inform ongoing regulatory compliance, and three were 10-outcome inspections.

Seven of the reports are dementia-specific thematic inspections; six of these centres were found to be in compliance with the regulations and standards.

Three inspections were triggered by receipt of unsolicited information by HIQA.

Reported non-compliances were in the areas of Health and Social Care Needs and Safe and Suitable Premises including the lack of privacy and dignity afforded to residents. Other noted non-compliances were in the areas of medication management practices and documentation.

Ends.
