Older person’s publication statement 6 January 2017

Date of publication:

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has today published 16 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.

Three of today’s inspection reports are 18-outcome inspections carried out to inform a registration decision, three are 10-outcome inspections, three are follow-up inspections to follow up on issues of non-compliance, six are dementia-care thematic inspections and one is a single-specific-issue inspection.

Twelve centres were found to be operating in compliance with the regulations and Standards. These reports show that residents’ needs were met and the care delivered to residents was safe in these centres.

However, evidence of non-compliance was found in four centres. Residents in these centres were found to be at risk and their needs not met in the areas such as governance and management, medication management, notification of incidents, health and social care needs, suitable staffing and safeguarding and safety.
