HealthData@IE Training and Education Resources Portfolio

Status: Published on

The Department of Health, in collaboration with HIQA and the Health Research Board (HRB), was awarded funding from the European Commission to support the establishment of health data access body (HDAB) services in Ireland under the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

The EHDS regulation is a major health information initiative across all EU countries. One of the aims of the EHDS is to facilitate the use of anonymised and pseudonymised health data to support policy development, research and innovation in the healthcare system. This is known as secondary use of health data. The EHDS regulation entered into force in March 2025, with implementation deadlines between 2027 and 2031.

In Ireland, the HealthData@IE project focuses on the development of national infrastructures needed to support HDAB services. It will also deliver important programmes of work centred on data quality enhancement, engagement and dissemination, as well as training and education for data users, data holders and the public.

HIQA has compiled this Training and Education Resources Portfolio to signpost and highlight tools and materials in relation to the EHDS and the secondary use of health data that are developed in the EU and elsewhere. The portfolio provides links to materials and resources that may be used to support the development of EHDS-related dissemination, education and training initiatives in an Irish context. The portfolio may also be used as a directory for any person interested in learning more about specific topics in relation to the EHDS and secondary use health data.

This Training and Education Resources Portfolio is a live document which will be updated on an ongoing basis.
