Advice to the Minister for Health to inform decision-making around the design and delivery of urgent and emergency healthcare services in the HSE Mid West region of Ireland

Status: Published on

This advice was produced for the Minister of Health as part of HIQA’s independent review to inform decision-making on the design and delivery of urgent and emergency healthcare services in HSE Mid West.

The review was initiated as a result of significant concerns for patient safety in the HSE Mid West region.

This advice document, informed by multiple work streams, and developed with the support of a number of organisations and individuals, describes HIQA’s findings on:

  • the core issue impacting urgent and emergency healthcare delivery in HSE Mid West.
  • what is required to address current risks to patient safety and potential options for how this might be achieved in the short and longer term.

The terms of reference and protocol for this review, reports developed to inform the overall advice to the Minister for Health and details of the Expert Advisory Group convened to support this work can be found below.
