Bala was appointed as Chief Information Officer in January 2018. He has 28 years of Technology leadership experience in Banking and Financial services, Consultancy, Manufacturing and Health. Bala has attained MSc in strategic quality management from University of Limerick and M.B.A from Dublin City University.

Bala is leading Information Services with the responsibility to drive multi-year Digital and Data Transformation programme for HIQA providing services to all business areas and external stakeholders of HIQA. His responsibilities include managing business demands, providing technology and business solutions in the area of ICT, Data and Analytics, Web and mobile channels, Information Governance and Assurance, Program Management Office, Enterprise Architecture, ICT security and Vendor and ICT Procurement management.
