The Chief Inspector of Social Services, as part of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), is responsible for the registration of designated centres, including nursing homes.

Registration is for a period of three years, the registered provider must apply to renew their registration at least six months in advance of the expiry date of their current registration period.

Registered Providers are only allowed to operate a designated centre if they are registered by the Office of the Chief Inspector.

How to apply

You must apply to register or renew registration of a nursing home by completing a registration pack and posting your complete pack to the HIQA Registration Office. Please use the table below to help you identify the type of registration pack you should complete.

If you plan to open a new designated centre, the centre must be ready for assessment and decision at the time of application.

Registered providers who wish to renew their registration of a designated centre must apply at least six months before the expiry date of their current registration.

Change of registered provider

Where a new provider is seeking to register an existing designated centre they must make an application to register before they can legally operate the centre. The current registered provider must also give consent before the office of the chief inspector will accept the application.

Description

Application to vary or remove a condition of registration

Description

A registered provider carrying on the business of a designated centre may apply to the Chief Inspector for the variation or removal of any condition applied to the registration of the designated centre.

Prescribed information document templates
If you are completing an NF30A, NF30B or NF31 Notification Form. You must submit prescribed information for a new person in charge or a new person participating in management.
